What Communications Can I Do With ClassTag?

Updated on March 28th, 2017 by Vlada Lotkina

ClassTag is all about effective and easy communication with your class parents. Whether you are looking to send a broadcast announcement or connect with parents individually.

 Announcements

The beauty of ClassTag is that parents start receiving all your communications as soon as they are invited. No parent is left behind even if it takes them time to join your class on ClassTag.

All of the announcements can be made with just a few clicks! All you need to do is click on the main creation button - '+' button - at the top right of the screen. On the phones it appears as a circle also in the top right.

This button is accessible on any page of your class in the same position, so that it is very easy to navigate and give you key parent engagement options right at your finger tips.

Announcements are broadcast messages that you can send to all parents to share a great moment from the classroom, give them some tips and ideas for how to support their child or give heads up on something going on at school. You can upload pictures and files along with the announcement itself.

  • Announcements will appear on the 'Home' screen for you and parents in your class
  • They will also arrive shortly to parents' inboxes including the pictures you've shared with the link to see more on ClassTag

You can pin up to three announcements right when you create them or do so from the home page. This is a great way to attract attention to the most relevant information or resources you might be sharing, and you can unpin the message once it is no longer important. When announcement is unpined, it will slide down to the rest of the feed.

Please Note!

All announcements are sent to parents' emails as soon as they are created regardless of whether you pin them or not!

Want to modify the announcement?

You can edit it anytime. Change any details of your message by clicking a gear button (and then Edit) next to the pin.

Please Note!

We do not resend edited announcements in order not to overwhelm parents with emails. If you have any significant updates to the message and need to send the information again, make it a separate announcement

Can parents send announcements?

It is entirely up to you if you want to allow parents to make announcements in your class or not. And the best part is that you can experiment and go back to the class settings to change it. By default parents cannot send announcement.

Adjusting settings is easy. Go to 'Class Settings' tab and check the corresponding box. (Or uncheck it in case they get too enthusiastic, you know...😍 or spammy)

  Direct Communications

Teachers and parents can now send private individual and group messages via ClassTag's inbox.

Messages are delivered to users' emails and in-app push notifications if users have downloaded ClassTag apps.

Replying to messages is very easy as all replies via email or directly on ClassTag will go directly to a single inbox. No more searching through long email threads mixed with other emails.

As a teacher, you can change your 'Class Settings' tab to allow parents to initiative conversations with other parents or not in a similar fashion to announcements.

You may also find when looking at the Stats page that you want to reach out to a parent to encourage more engagement and participation in the classroom.  You can easily do so from here as well by clicking on the Take Action drop down menu in the right hand column of the Stats page.  Read more about the Stats page here.

Automated Communications

Teachers and parents love ClassTag because it saves time on all of the follow ups and numerous reminders.

Here are the 4 automated communications sent via email:

  • Daily summary sent on days when activities are happening sent at 6 AM
  • Reminder 2 days before the event or request if parents have signed up
  • Follow up messages only to the parents who have not yet signed up for any requests or didn't RSVP on Tuesdays starting 30 days before the activity is taking place
  • Weekly summary − teacher's favorite that substitutes the weekly newsletter and can be customized. The weekly summary is sent at 12 PM on Fridays by default when activities are happening next week or whenever teachers have created a custom message creating a consistent system of weekly communications. Read below to learn more!

Teachers and parents can modify their mail settings for all automated communications so that everyone can find the communication style that is best fit for the needs. Go to 'Mail Preferences' of your 'Account Settings'. Check the box − and the corresponding updates and reminders will be regularly sent to you, or uncheck it not to get them, and save changes

 Weekly Newsletter

Wish your class parents a wonderful week and sum everything up. Our teachers' absolute favorite is Weekly Update on ClassTag.

  • Weekly Summary is generated automatically and sent on Fridays at noon your local time, but can be customized to day and time according to your preference
  • The update includes neatly presented information on what is happening in your class the following week and shows each family relevant information based on their status for the upcoming activities
  • Optionally you can add a custom message to the weekly newsletter! It is a great way to highlight specific things you are learning, some funny moments or maybe even a question you would like parents to ask their children this week. When you're finished, don't forget to click 'Update Custom Message' for the changes to take effect

  • Want to see the summary beforehand? Simply click the 'Preview email' button and you'll know exactly what the Weekly Update will look like when it is sent to the parents
  • If parents have participated in activities the week before, they will even be publicly thanked. What a great way to encourage participation!

Teacher Pro Tip: Schedule time on Wednesdays or Thursdays to ensure all activities are on ClassTag and add a custom message!
