How can I upload and share videos with my class?

​Step-by-step instructions on how to upload a video in ClassTag

Sharing videos is an effective way to communicate with parents and update them with their child’s progress or anything that is happening in the class. From sending a simple welcome message to capturing those special memories in the class, or even providing instructions that the kids can do while at home. These can all be best communicated to the parents by sending them a video.

ClassTag allows Teachers to upload a maximum of 500 MB (megabytes) of video. Please note that video file size is dependent on your camera settings. Before uploading any video to ClassTag, it will be best to check your camera phone settings first to get an idea of how large, in terms of MB, a one-minute video could be. A one-minute video taken via iPhone with 720p HD at 30 fps setting is about 60 MB, so a video of 8-9 min long should work. You can check your iPhone camera settings via Settings > Camera > Record Video. It shows something like this: 


Uploading a video via ClassTag can be done in three ways. You can --

1. Take a video while using the app and upload it OR

2. Upload a video that is already saved on your phone OR

3. Embed a YouTube or Vimeo URL.

You can do any of the above via Announcement, Share a Story, Activities, or a direct message (conversation icon on the upper right) with the parent. For the example below, we’ll show how to send a video using the Announcement feature.

OPTION 1: Take a video while using the app and upload it

1. Once on your class Home page, click the plus orange key on the upper right side of the page.


2. Choose “Announcement”

3. Fill out the “Title” and “Message” boxes


4. Click “Add files or photos”


5. Click “Take Photo or Video”.

6. Choose “Video”. You can also flip the camera if you’d like to record yourself.


7. Click the red button to start recording.


8. Once you’re done recording, click the square red button.

9. Once you are done recording, you can play the video and decide to retake or use the current recording.


10. The upload process will start. You will notice a progress bar that indicates the status of the upload.


11. Click “Preview”

12. Click “Send”

13. The page will direct you to the Announcement where you can see the video that you just took. It will also show a play button to play the video.

OPTION 2: Upload a video that is already saved on your phone

1. Starting on your class “Home” page, click the plus orange key on the upper right side of the page.

2. Choose “Announcement”

3. Fill out the “Title” and “Message” boxes

4. Click “Add files or photos”

5. Click “Photo Library” or the folder where your videos are saved.

6. Click the "Videos" folder or the folder where your videos are saved.

7. Click the specific video that you’d like to upload.


8. Click “Add.”

9. The upload process will start. You will notice a progress bar that indicates the status of the upload.


10. Click “Preview”.

11. Click “Send”

12. The page will direct you to the Announcement where you can see the video that you just took. It will also show a play button to play the video.

OPTION 3: Embed a YouTube or Vimeo URL

1. On your class “Home” page, click the plus orange key on the upper right side of the page.

2. Choose “Announcement”

3. Fill out the “Title” and “Message” boxes


4. In the “Message” box, click Attach YouTube video. You can also past the URL of a Vimeo video in the body of the message.

5. Search the YouTube video you want to add or paste the URL.

6. Click “Update.”


7. Click “Send”


8. The page will direct you to the Announcement where you can see the embedded YouTube or Vimeo video. It will also show a play button to play the video.
